The term “pedophilia” origins from Greek.

 

παιδός or paidós means "child”

φιλία or philía means "friendly love" 

 

Authorities do not use the origin meaning of the Greek's terminology, which is “child lover”, since it’s not suitable to the actual disorder.

 

Pedophilia is included in Chronophilia, which means a sexual attraction, which is based on an age range preference. Beside pedophilia, there are some types of “philia”, such as:

 

1.Nepiophilia is people who are sexually attracted to infants and toddlers (0-3 years oId)

2.Pedophilia is people who are sexually attracted to prepubescent children (0-13)

3.Hebephilia is people who are sexually attracted to children who are still in puberty (11-15)

4.Ephebophilia is people who are sexually attracted to late pubescent child (15-19)

5.Teleiophilia is people who are attracted to adults.

6.Gerontophilia is people who are attracted to elder person.

 

Nepiophilia, sometimes called as “infantophilia” is considered as a sub-type of pedophilia, with an infants and toddlers (0-5 years old) as the sexual attraction’s preference

 

DSM-5 or Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Edition 5 doesn't  considered Hebephilia as pedophilia since evidence implies that it’s different.

 

However, the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems Revision 10 stated that the definition of it is “A persistent or a predominant preference for sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children.“ with the criteria “the person with a minimum 16 years old and at least five years older than the children”. Moreover, referred to this, some psychiatrists created the other “term” or “classification” like pedohebephilia (combination between pedophilia and hebephilia) 

 

So, what is Pedophile?

A sexual disorder where people are sexually attracted to children with age range of 13 years old or younger. The subject must be at least 16 years old or above and 5 years older than the child.
