We Raise Awareness
Conclusion
Pedophilia is a sexual disorder where young people or adults (16 years and over) are sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children (less than 13 years old). It had happened throughout in human history like during the ancient Greek period and was implemented in some cultures in the world. However, it was not defined and studied as “pedophilia” before, so it wasn't treated as abnormality. Until now, the cause of pedophilia remains unknown. However, studies have proven that the disruption on the connected circuitry of the brain as one of the possible cause. In addition, they might have a gruesome childhood trauma like being abused by their families, relatives, acquaintances etc. Moreover, this experience causes the trauma and lead them do the act of pedophilia in attempt to “relive”.
However, we need to understand that not all of pedophiles are child molesters. Some of them, they have isolated themselves because they think that they’re useless and harmful to the society. As a human being, it is not right to isolate them from our community. If we avoid, keep off, and treat them as the sick, it would hurt their feelings. Moreover, they could seek revenge to the community and harm our love ones. This action (isolate) would not help them to believe that they need to have treatments. By supporting them and still be alert of, we can morally support them to pull through of this disorder. Moreover, our friend will believe that they need help to overcome this disorder. In addition, they will feel supported. It is a fact that there is still no treatment that could cure this disorder. However, some treatment and the help from experts can diminish the disorder. Studies have proven that the most effective treatments are the combination between psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy treatments.
In Germany, there is a project called "Prevention Project Dunkelfeld", where they give free treatments to pedophiles. Their slogan, "Don't Offend" is suitable to this condition. Statistics have confirmed that their method of treatment works well.
In the meantime, we still need to protect our love ones. We need to understand that this disorder could happen to anyone. Statistics from cases have proven that these victims were molested 90% by their acquaintance and only 10% by strangers. Before you regret it, be communicative and open to your love ones. Inform them those "strangers" are dangerous. In addition, educate and tell them that their genital part cannot be touched by anyone.
As the victim of this disorder, they will be traumatic. They need support and guidance from the expert to handle their depression and frighten. Support, care and love from the family and relatives are important, since it will encourage them to move on and forget the past. These kinds of attitudes are needed to break the "cycle" where the traumatic victims will grow up and build this depressed condition to something worse, like pedophilia.
One cannot choose to not be a pedophile, but one can choose to not be a child molester.
